Powering the EzSBC1 installed in the Project Board 1

Unread post by cdeaglejr »

Greetings,

I would like to know if I can use the computer-to-USB connector and an external power supply with the Project Board 1 at the same time. The USB cable is also supplying 5 volts to the EzSBC1.

Thanks,

Definitely. There is a jumper in the corner near the battery holder labeled 'Local Power'. If you remove the jumper then the module will be powered from the USB and the board and USB power will not fight each other. If you leave the jumper in place without powering the board from a wall-wart the USB will partially power the board. If you externally power the PB1 and the EzSBC1 has the USB plugged in then I have not seen bad things happen but it is in principal possible for the PB1 to try to power the USB in the PC which is not allowed. When I tested it nothing happened except the voltage went to the average (roughly) of the USB 5V and the on board 5V.
